Using LADDER English

LADDER English helps students prepare for AQA GCSE English Language (8700) and English Literature (8702). It is a practice and teaching tool. Levels, rungs and working grades are practice estimates to guide your next step — they are never official grades and never a prediction of your exam result.

You agree to use the app for your own learning, to keep your password to yourself, and to write respectfully. Do not put unnecessary personal information into written answers or the AI Tutor.

What we store

• Your account details, including your email address and the name you choose to use.
• Your learning progress and practice activity.
• Written answers and feedback where the feature saves them as part of your learning record.
• Reading and accessibility settings used to make the app easier to use.

Ordinary AI Tutor conversation history is kept on your device rather than stored as a normal server-side chat record. If a message raises a serious safeguarding concern, the relevant information may be recorded separately for safeguarding review.

We do not store card details. Payments, when switched on, are handled by a payment provider.

Who can see your learning information

Your learning record and saved written work may be available to authorised adults where LADDER provides that feature, such as an authorised tutor or administrator. Students cannot see each other's work. Teachers can only see students they are authorised to teach through LADDER.

Ordinary AI Tutor chat history is not treated as a normal shared learning record. Safeguarding information is handled separately and access is restricted to people who need it for that purpose.

The AI Tutor

The Tutor is an AI study helper for GCSE English. Messages sent to the Tutor are processed by the AI service used by LADDER so that it can generate a reply. Do not enter your full name, address, phone number, school name, social-media details or other unnecessary personal information.

The Tutor is not a replacement for a teacher, parent, guardian or safeguarding professional. It is designed to stay within GCSE English study and to use additional safety checks for worrying or inappropriate content.

Safeguarding

If something a student writes suggests a serious safety concern, LADDER may record the relevant information for safeguarding review. Any sharing with a parent, school, professional or authority must follow LADDER's safeguarding procedure and applicable law. LADDER will not tell a student that a human has been contacted unless the service has actually confirmed that notification.

Age and parent or guardian involvement

LADDER is designed for GCSE students, including students aged 14–16. During student signup, the student is asked to confirm that they have read the information and discussed using LADDER with a parent or guardian. This wording is an acknowledgement, not a claim that LADDER has independently verified parental consent.

The legal basis for each type of data processing is set out in the full privacy information used by LADDER and should be reviewed by the service operator before launch.

Your data rights

You can ask questions about your information, ask for inaccurate information to be corrected and, where the law allows, ask for your information to be deleted or for processing to be restricted. Contact us using the address below. We may need to check that a request really comes from the person whose information is involved.

You can update optional learning information on your About Me page. You can ask us about your account or data by email.
