Parents & Safeguarding

Safeguarding built in from the start

LADDER English is designed for school-age students, so privacy and safeguarding shape the architecture rather than being added afterwards.

Who our tutors are

  • All tutors who communicate with students hold an in-date enhanced DBS check.
  • Tutors are currently practising GCSE English tutors.
  • Tutors are experienced in AQA GCSE English Language and Literature.
  • Tutor names, roles, experience and safeguarding-training status are recorded in our tutor register.

We never publish DBS certificate numbers or tutors' personal details. Parents may request confirmation of a tutor's status by contacting us.

What tutor contact involves

  • Tutor contact is a Premium feature and is always about English study.
  • Messages are sent and answered inside the platform, never by private channels.
  • All tutor messages are logged and available for safeguarding review.
  • Students are asked not to share personal or contact information.
  • Students cannot message one another anywhere in the platform.
  • Tutors only see the students they are authorised to support.

Raising a concern

If you have a safeguarding concern, email tutor@ladderenglish.co.uk with the word SAFEGUARDING in the subject line. Concerns are reviewed by the platform's designated safeguarding lead, recorded, and escalated to the appropriate external agency where required. If a child is at immediate risk, contact the police or your local children's services first.

Data and consent

  • We ask students for a first name only.
  • Parent accounts can be linked to a child's account to view progress.
  • Parents see activity and progress data, not the content of a student's private tutor messages, unless our privacy policy and consent model allow it.
  • Accessibility preferences are stored to make the app usable, not to profile students.

Tutor register (administration)

Platform administrators maintain the tutor register — name, role, DBS status, date checked, qualifications and safeguarding training. It is managed in the admin dashboard and is never exposed to students.
